The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources is developing an interactive map of unsanctioned and legal landfills

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources is at the final stage of developing an interactive map of unsanctioned and legal landfills according to O.Semerak, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources.

The work on the map has several directions. First, the map will offer the official information provided by local governments, which the Ministry of Environment collects and processes.

The interactive part of the project also envisions a mobile app that can be downloaded to the telephone and will provide an opportunity to communicate with the Ministry and provide information about landfills, thus offering a possibility to control how local governments to clean the area from illegal and temporary landfills.

The Minister believes that solutions to the problem of recycling and waste management depend on the willingness of Ukrainian themselves to change their attitudes towards environmental protection.

Soon, this resource will be officially presented and the Ministry will conduct a promotional campaign to attract as many citizens of Ukraine as possible to solving solid waste problem issues.

In addition to this, the Ministry will initiate a significant increase in fines for violations of environmental laws. The Minister believes that the situation when the illegal landfill tenant gets the maximum fine in the amount of only several hundred hryvnyas is inadmissible. The work to prepare the corresponding draft law is currently underway.
